Rainfall harvest with Rock Catchment

A rock catchment: An amazing water project demonstrating innovative ways of capturing water from rain.

A rock catchment system harvests rainfall during wet seasons and store it for use especially during dry seasons. Rock catchments can be considered as green-friendly systems that facilitate runoff delivery mainly through gravity and therefore require no fuel or chemicals and has little environmental impact.
This system consists of natural rock outcrop surfaces that captures and diverts runoff from rainfall into a common collector point, located typically at the lowest point of the rock catchment. Runoff then passes through intake pipes into filtration and treatment area into large covered storage tanks. These tanks protect the water from contamination and evaporation. Each storage tank is fitted with a tap for easy access. A well designed system can collect upto 90% of total rainfall received by the catchment area, thus providing valuable water supply especially during drought periods.
